Allenby Crushes Course Record at U.S. Open Qualifier

uso qualifier 2013 150aJames Allenby of Langley, B.C. set a course record, firing a 10-under par 61, and took medalist honors in leading the field of 104 players who competed yesterday in local qualifying at Bellingham (Wash.) Golf and Country Club - Along with Allenby, six other players advanced from this local qualifier to the sectional qualifier, which will be held on June 3 - The 2013 U.S. Open Championship is being held June 13-16 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Penn.

The other players to qualify are Darren Wallace, Langley, B.C., the former University of Washington star; John Cassidy of Yelm, Wash.; John Eisentrout of Olympia, Wash.; Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., also a former star at the University of Washington, who was ranked the No. 1 amateur in the world his senior year; Tyler Wong of Bellingham, Wash.; and Jack Kelly of North Bend, Wash. - Full Results

U.S. Open Qualifying Today at BG&CC

wsga logo 150aU.S. Open local qualifying is set to commence at Bellingham (Wash.) Golf and Country Club on Monday, May 6, as 111 players will look to earn one of the seven available spots to advance to the next stage of qualifying on the road to the championship - The seven players who advance from this qualifier will then go on to compete in a sectional qualifier on June 3. The 2013 U.S. Open Championship is being held June 13-16 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania

Among the names to watch for at Bellingham G&CC is Jeff Coston of Blaine, Wash., who holds the record for the number of PGA Section titles with 19 and who has qualified in the past for the U.S.. Open. He was also recently inducted into the Pacific Northwest Section PGA Hall of Fame. Also of note are Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, BC, the former University of Washington standout who was ranked the No. 1 amateur in the world his senior year; Tim Feenstra of Issaquah, Wash., a two-time Washington Open champion; Ryan Benzel of Woodinville, Wash., who has twice qualified for the PGA Championship; Corey Prugh of Spokane, Wash., the 2011 Northwest Open champion; and Erik Hanson of Kirkland, Wash., the former pitcher for the Seattle Mariners - Player Roster, Tee Times & Scoring
