Harbour Pointe Golf Course
I recently had an opportunity to tee it up with some pals at Harbour Pointe Golf Club in Mukilteo, WA. - I had not played there before and I was certainly treated to an interesting layout. To give you an idea of what I mean, Harbour Pointe was selected as Golf Digest's best new public golf course for 1991 and in 1996 Golf Digest again rated it as the second best golf facility in the entire Northwest.
Harbour Pointe is an 18-hole public course and features distinctive layouts for the front and back nines. The front-9 is relatively flat with water coming into play on almost every hole. Hitting it straight is an absolute must, as errant shots are generally punitive. The back nine is laid out among rolling hills and is lined with huge evergreen trees. Finding the greens on the back nine is a priority as large valleys and swales around the greens make getting up and down a real challenge. Harbour Pointe is also very scenic! Incredible views of Puget Sound, Whidbey Island and the Olympic Mountains add greatly to the overall golfing experience. The layout, in general, is a reasonably tough test of golf. However five different sets of tee blocks make it playable for golfers of any skill level. One feature of the course that I really liked was multiple options for risk and reward. There are several holes that offer the opportunity to “get greedy” and if you hit a good shot you have a good chance to make birdie or better. Alas, should you get greedy and miss, a large number is in your immediate future! Many of the holes at Harbour Pointe are protected by water, sand or other generally bad things, but for the most part, there was always an area to bail out and play safe. I really like this feature in a golf course as it dares you to take a chance but you don’t necessarily have to in order to score.
The amenities at Harbour Pointe are also top-notch. A new clubhouse / pro shop and adjoining restaurant are well stocked and the food is great. An all grass driving range is conveniently located near the first tee and is complete with putting and chipping greens as well as a practice bunker. All in all, Harbour Pointe provides a complete golfing experience. If you haven't yet played harbour Pointe, I’d definitely recommend you check it out. Visit them online at: Click Here
