Stanley Goes Low at Torrey

kyle_stanley_ss_150doneTo say that Gig Harbor native Kyle Stanley had a good day on the links, would be a comical understatement - Stanley threw nine birdies and an eagle at the North Course at Torrey Pines during his opening round at the Farmers Insurance Open - A lone bogey on the 11th still had Stanley atop the heap with his career low round of 10-under 62 - Spencer Levin also got it around in 62 while Bill Haas sits one back after a stellar 63 - The other Washington golfers in the field weren't bad, but paled in comparison to Stanley's performance - Troy Kelly, also on the north course carded a 4-under round of 68 while Richard Lee (even par 72) and Ryan Moore (+3 75) played the more difficult south course - In fact, 15 of the top 16 scores in round one were posted on the north course so all of those who went low during round one will get to deal with the tougher south course in round two - To watch live coverage of the final three rounds on your computer; Click Here - Coverage begins Friday, Sat. & Sun. at 1:00 PM

McIlroy Leads in Abu Dhabi - Tiger 3 Back

mcilroy_150a(ABU DHABI, UAE)-- 22 year old Irishman and world number 3 Rory McIlroy scraped it around the National course at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club to the tune of 5-under par - His round of 67 left him tied with Swede Robert Karlsson - Round one saw a tightly bunched leaderboard as 54 golfers played to par or better - It was a marquee threesome that went out early on day one, featuring McIlroy, Tiger Woods, and the top ranked player in the world, Luke Donald - McIlroy got the best of both of playing partners as Woods had decent, if not spectacular round of 70 and Donald could only manage 71 - For complete tournament scoring; Click Here

Phil & Tiger Both in Action This Week

tiger_150cFor over a decade they were the top two players in the world - Tiger Woods dominated the world golf stage and Phil Mickelson amazed with his talent and bravado - My how times have changed - As the 2012 golf season begins to heat up this week with the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego along with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in the Middle East, it's a much different landscape at the top of the heap - The top four players in the world rankings are Europeans with Steve Stricker (5), Webb Simpson (6), and Dustin Johnson (9) the lone Americans able to crack the top 10 - It sounds odd, but this week world #15 Phil Mickelson will tee it up in San Diego and world #25 Tiger Woods makes his much anticipated 2012 debut in Abu Dahbi - Phil is coming off his opening event last week at the Humana Challenge (formerly the Bob Hope) were he ho-hummed his way to a T-49 finish that saw him 14 shots off the winning number - Word from the desert sands is that during his practice rounds, Tiger has looked much more like world #25 than the beast that once ruled all of golfdom - We'll see, but Bob Dylan comes to mind as "the times, they are a-changin'" - Whether the changin' is merely a temporary glitch in the world order, or a complete purging of those once mighty, stay tuned as act 1 begins tomorrow at 1:00 AM and Noon on the Golf Channel - For TV air-times; Click Here
